Mini Dude

The Belgian artist Jaune has become known for his stencil works of miniature sanitation workers in public spaces. Often overlooked despite the high-visibility colors of their workwear - much like the real city cleaning staff, to which the artist himself once belonged. Jaune's attention to detail is evident in his site-specific work "Kunstfabrik" (Art Factory), created specifically for the Völklingen Ironworks and applied to the outer wall of the ore plaza. The eponymous lettering consists of pipes and chimneys, typical of what the Völklingen Ironworks has in abundance, populated by Jaune's signature figures - at least at first glance. In this context, however, the sanitation workers become steelworkers, marked by their grey and orange workwear as worn by today's Saarstahl workers. "Kunstfabrik" refers on the one hand clearly to the industrial past of the Völklingen Ironworks, but on the other hand also to its current role as a hotspot for art and culture - a symbol of structural transformation. Anyone keeping their eyes open will encounter further miniature workers near the Völklingen train station - this time identifiable as members of the municipal cleaning service in yellow and orange outfits.
