This Waalpainting tells the story of the Plooierijen (1702-1705). After the death of stadtholder William III in 1702, a struggle for political power arose in Nijmegen between two rival regent factions: the Oude and the Nieuwe Plooi. This would eventually lead to the murder of six Nijmegen regents.
