Ona nije u Latinskoj Americi

The title of the work comes from a xenophobic clash during the painting process and aims to act as a reminder that no border, whether physical or not, should stop women from achieving dreams around the world.

“Ona nije Latinskoj Americi”, meaning 'She's not in Latin America' portrays the possibility of union between distinct cultures through the interweaving of symbolic fabrics for both regions. On the one hand, the “green panuẽlo” characteristic of feminist struggles in Latin America. On the other, the red checkerboard that makes up the domestic scene in Bosnia-Herzegovina.

According to Priscila Barbosa , “finding similarities between Slavs and Latins was not a difficult task (…)” and that “in a few conversations it was possible to perceive the processes of marginalization and the arduous attempts to build a society that embraces differences (…)” .

Bosnia-Herzegovina is one of the six republics of the former Yugoslavia and, after 30 years of the war that began its independence process, it still experiences solid political conflicts due, especially, to ethnic rivalries.
