Awareness of transience (EN)

The artwork is a self-portrait of Ferdinand Bol, but with a hare’s head, because Ferdinand himself often painted hares in his works. The posture and clothing reference the self-portrait. The hare is a nod to the still lifes featuring dead animals from his era. The artist turns that classic motif on its head. The animal looks at you as if it were alive. With this, artist Klaas Lageweg aims to emphasize the transience of life.

Besef van vergankelijkheid (NL)

Het kunstwerk is een zelfportret van Ferdinand Bol, maar dan met een hazenkop, omdat Ferdinand zelf veel hazen schilderde in zijn werken. Het postuur en de kleding verwijzen naar het zelfportret. De haas knipoogt naar de stillevens met dode dieren uit zijn tijd. De kunstenaar draait dat klassieke motief om. Het dier kijkt je levend aan. Kunstenaar Klaas Lageweg wil hiermee de vergankelijkheid van het leven benadrukken.
