Kingfisher

Mural commissioned by the Woonkwartier housing association. The artwork visualises the connection between nature and the city centre. The painting is inspired by the patch of nature you walk towards from what is, for now, the end of the harbour. At the centre is a kingfisher, beneath which is a branch in full bloom with apple blossom.

Through the kingfisher and the blossoming nature, I have sought to bring the feeling of the countryside into the city centre. A patch of nature that, as it were, enters the city whilst simultaneously inviting you to walk from the centre further towards the greenery. The mural thus forms a symbolic link between the city centre, the harbour and nature.

Muurschildering in opdracht van woningcorporatie Woonkwartier. Het kunstwerk brengt de verbinding tussen het stadscentrum en de natuur in beeld. Het schilderij is geïnspireerd op het stukje natuur waar je naartoe loopt vanaf wat voorlopig het einde van de haven is. Centraal staat een ijsvogel, met daaronder een tak vol in bloei met appelbloesem.

Door middel van de ijsvogel en de bloeiende natuur heb ik geprobeerd het gevoel van het platteland naar het stadscentrum te brengen. Een stukje natuur dat als het ware de stad binnenkomt en je tegelijkertijd uitnodigt om vanuit het centrum verder het groen in te lopen. De muurschildering vormt zo een symbolische verbinding tussen het stadscentrum, de haven en de natuur.
