The mural depicts a stylised black-and-white human figure balancing on a white board above a red, dripping mound, surrounded by a blue sky and ochre ground.
The figure seems to be a warrior, holding a shield and a sword. Its primitive, almost prehistoric visual language contrasts with the surrounding industrial architecture.
The mural by Saarland-based artist Achim Saar is located in the "Handwerkergasse" (Craftsmen's Alley) area of the Völklingen Ironworks UNESCO World Heritage Site. This alley-like area lies at the heart of the industrial complex. The section of the courtyard shown is situated near the water tower.
Achim Saar is a student of Fine Arts at the Saar Academy of Fine Arts in Saarbrücken.
