Flower Power

KIWI creëerde in deze volkse wijk een levendige muurschildering van bijna 40 meter. Persoonlijke interactie met de buurt resulteerde in unieke details, zoals een leeuwin met 4 welpen als eerbetoon aan een bewoonster met 4 kinderen en een tijger met maar één oog opgedragen aan de buurtkat met ook maar één oog.

NEDERLANDS - Kevin Lamy Stiers aka KIWI LIBERDADE SAGRADA, is terug in Vilvoorde. Sociale organisaties ZenneLab & RISO schakelden de kunstenaar voor de tweede keer in om de wijk Broek op te fleuren. Na de loods in de tuin van het Zennelab, was nu de 40 meter lange muur langs de Harensesteenweg aan de beurt. Zennelab ging rond en vroeg de buurt wat ze graag op de muur zou zien. Het verdict: planten & dieren, iets abstracts én een tafel met twee glazen rode wijn uitkijkend op een Italiaanse horizon. De buurt vroeg, KIWI draaide. Naast de prachtige exotische fauna & flora, is er in het midden van de muurschildering een gezicht te zien. Volgens de artiest stelt het hoofd de fasen van het leven voor: "Als kind zien we de wereld. Als we ouder worden, sluiten we die ogen vanwege de wereld. Om een wereld te zien die zich achter de wereld verbergt, moeten we leren de conditionering ervan af te leren!" Voor de krulvormige motieven liet KIWI zich inspireren door de flamboyante patronen van kathedralen. Er was zeer veel interactie met de buurtbewoners. Een van hen had een kat met maar een oog; ook de tijger links op de muur mankeert iets aan zijn oogje. De kunstenaar deed er tien dagen over om de muur af te werken. Op het (apart) stuk muur helemaal rechts, vindt men een mama leeuw met haar 4 welpen terug. Aanvankelijk wou de kunstenaar daar een aapje tekenen met een kiwi in zijn hand, dat uit het kader in het Italiaanse landschap kwam. Maar de dame aan de overkant van de straat vond dat geen goed idee en vroeg KIWI of hij het kon veranderen in iets persoonlijkers. De dame in kwestie had 4 kinderen; KIWI schilderde bijgevolg een mama leeuw met 4 kleintjes.

KIWI created a lively mural of almost 40 meters in this working-class neighborhood. Personal interaction with the neighborhood resulted in unique details, such as a lioness with 4 cubs as a tribute to a resident with 4 children and a tiger with only one eye dedicated to the neighborhood cat with only one eye.

Kevin Lamy Stiers aka KIWI LIBERDADE SAGRADA, is back in Vilvoorde. Social organisations ZenneLab & RISO called on the artist for the second time to brighten up the neighborhood of Broek. After the shed in the garden of Zennelab, it was now up to the 40 meter long wall along the Harensesteenweg. Zennelab went around and asked the neighborhood what they would like to see on the wall. The verdict: plants & animals, something abstract and a table with two glasses of red wine looking out over an Italian horizon. The neighborhood asked, KIWI made it happen. Besides the beautiful exotic fauna & flora, there is a face in the middle of the mural. According to the artist, the head represents the stages of life: "As children, we see the world. As we grow older, we close those eyes because of the world. To see a world that hides behind it, we have to learn to unlearn its conditioning!" For the curly motifs, KIWI took inspiration from the flamboyant patterns of cathedrals. There was a lot of interaction with the local residents. One of them had a cat with only one eye; the tiger on the left wall is also missing an eye. It took the artist ten days to finish the wall. On the (separate) piece of wall on the far right, there is a mother lion with her four cubs. Initially the artist wanted to draw a monkey with a kiwi in its hand, which came out of the frame in the Italian landscape. But the lady across the street didn't like that idea and asked KIWI if he could change it into something more personal. The lady in question had 4 children; so KIWI painted a mama lion with 4 little ones.
