The Flight for the Last Breath

NEDERLANDS - Deze kleurrijke Street Art werd gemaakt door Kevin Lamy Stiers, een Belg met Portugese roots. In Portugal staat "Heilige vrijheid" oftewel Liberdade Sagrada centraal en deze artiest wil heel graag leven in die vrijheid; daarom koos hij voor de artiestennaam KIWI, afkomstig van het Franse "Qui vit". Het betekent dus zoveel als "Hij die leeft in Heilige vrijheid". Het waren Zennelab, Riso en Fam.ly die de handen in elkaar sloegen en de kunstenaar uitnodigden om de loods in de tuin te versieren. Wat er op het gebouw kwam te staan, werd mee beslist door de jongeren van de wijk. Uit de brainstorm kwamen vooral natuur, muziek, sport en cultuur naar voren. Daarmee ging KIWI aan de slag. Hij werkte maar liefst 14 dagen aan de mural, telkens 12 tot soms 16 uur per dag. Er valt dan ook heel wat te zien: we herkennen Muhammad Ali, Gaia (de godin van de natuur en de aarde), Vrouwe Justitia en Pegasus (een verwijzing naar de mascotte van Vilvoorde nl het paard). We zien heel veel dieren en ook de letters ODB wat staat voor "onder de brug". Bedoeling is dat de Street Art de jongere bezoekers van de Loodstuin inspireert.

ENGLISH - This colourful Street Art was made by Kevin Lamy Stiers, an artist form Belgium with Portuguese roots. In Portugal, "Holy Freedom" or Liberdade Sagrada is very important and this artist wants very much to live in that freedom; therefore he chose the artist name KIWI, from the French "Qui vit". It means "He who lives in sacred freedom". It was Zennelab, Riso and Fam.ly who joined forces and invited the artist to decorate the shed in the garden. The young people of the neighbourhood helped to decide what should be put on the building. The brainstorming sessions highlighted nature, music, sport and culture. KIWI set to work with this. He worked on the mural for no less than 14 days, for 12 to 16 hours a day. There is a lot to see: we recognise Muhammad Ali, Gaia (the goddess of nature and the earth), Lady Justice and Pegasus (a reference to the mascot of Vilvoorde, the horse). We see lots of animals and also the letters ODB which stands for "under the bridge" in Dutch. The Street Art is meant to inspire the younger visitors of the garden.
