Soul of Šilas (Šilo siela)

When you are near the Šilo Bridge on the Žirmūnų Street side, it’s worth walking down to one of its supports. There you’ll see the artwork “The Soul of Šilas” (Šilo siela 🇱🇹) by artist Lina Šlipavičiūtė.

This artwork has two parts. On one side, it depicts the ancient Lithuanian goddess Žvėrūna, the protector of forest animals. The ancient Lithuanians believed that a powerful goddess named Žvėrūna lived in the forest and protected its animals; she was capable of transforming herself into any animal. Meanwhile, on the other side of the bridge, a wolf greets the viewer. The wolf is the symbol of Vilnius.

This mural work is part of the Vilnius City Municipality's “Dalyvauk” program.
