Moon’s ability to separate land from water

The mural is probably one of the oldest street art pieces in Stockholm as it was painted in 1984. It was created by the feminist art collective called Sappho’s daughters (Sapphos döttrar). Some of the local people also call the art piece The Horse (Hästen) although the oryginał title is the Moon’s ability to separate land from water (Månens förmåga att separera land från vatten)

It depicts a powerful Nordic horse leaping over a beam of moonlight that cuts through the elements.

The mural is inspired by the four natural elements and the duality of human mind. The leaping horse physically bridges air, earth, and water, while the sparks flying from its hooves and the cold starlight represent fire. The water’s surface underneath the horse acts as a mirror, symbolizing the boundary and connection between the conscious and subconscious mind.

Because of its age the colors have faded but the artwork is still visible.
