Painted by Evoca1 in 2019, Rudy is a monumental nine-story portrait on the east façade of Methodist Towers in downtown Erie, Pennsylvania. Rather than depicting a famous historical figure, the Dominican-born artist chose to celebrate an ordinary resident whose extraordinary life has become a symbol of resilience. The mural portrays Rudolph “Rudy” Daniels, a longtime Methodist Towers resident who lost his sight at the age of 20 after being struck by a gunshot during his youth in Philadelphia. Following years of hardship, Daniels rebuilt his life through faith, eventually settling in Erie, where his warm personality and daily walks made him a familiar face throughout the city.

Today, Rudy stands as one of Erie's most beloved murals, reminding viewers that true heroes are often found in everyday life. It celebrates the strength of the human spirit while reinforcing Evoca1's belief that the most meaningful public art begins with the stories of the people who call a place home.
