The container stairs is a project by Luxor theater, that was started to distract focus from the building activities that will be going on in front of the theater for a period of about ten years. The main focus of the project is connection. It not only physically connects the ground floor with the upper terrace, the different activities that will be held in and around the stairs also connect the people of Rotterdam with each other.

For the outside of the container stairs, Luxor found partners in Unity in Diversity and ALL CAPS. Together these foundations chose Elwin to be the first emerging artist to be able to paint the containers from more then 100 submissions.

This being the artists first large outdoor artwork, ALL CAPS provided him with a mentor in the person of experienced artist Reinier Landwehr. Under his guidance the young artist managed to reach this excellent result.

Luxor requested the concept of diversity to be represented in the artwork. This inspired Elwin to create the design with the two women from different cultures, Asian and African. This is also a sidestep for the artist, who normally focuses mostly on the male body in his work.
