Wild Wild West

Graffiti and western films have a lot in common. In literature, the protagonists are often described as outlaws who roam the prairie in masks in order to conquer new territories at dusk. But while the hero myth in film is typically embodied by the ‘Lonesome Hero’ of John Wayne or Clint Eastwood, the graffiti scene in Paderborn is characterised by impressive collaborative work. In general, graffiti culture is a strongly social form of expression that emphasises the shared experience of adventures in urban space. A bit like a western. Acum One, Fiete, Kash, Kröti, Lime, Senal and Volker formed a team to design this garage wall in Schloss Neuhaus. The western genre has experienced a small renaissance in recent years with films such as True Grit and The Revenant. At the same time, Lukas Michalski (Ka$h) developed a design that combines the western theme with the futuristic alien world. Numerous UFOs can be seen in the sky above the prairie. Volker's robot portrait also lends the concept wall a futuristic touch. The wild graffiti styles of Fiete (left), Lime (centre), Acum One (right) and Ka$h (side wall) are among the most interesting style writings in the region. Its stylised graffiti lettering is complemented by detailed spray-painted cacti, canyons and cowboys. Wild style in the wild north-west of Paderborn
