Paderstern

Erwa One uses different stencils to create his pictures, with the help of which he creates a complex pattern. His technique is based on the design principles of so-called fractals, which are characterised by the repetition and combination of recurring patterns. While Erwa One's first attempts many years ago consisted of a single stencil, these masks have now become the basic building blocks of his much more complex and larger forms, which he continues to develop further. Erwa One's first work in East Westphalia is entitled Paderstern. The central pattern is made up of a total of three layers, which require a high degree of precision due to their symmetry and superimposition. The design of the surface is accordingly based on mathematical principles of geometry, which create an almost hypnotic and transcendental effect the longer you look at the wall here at Paderbruch. It is therefore hardly surprising that mathematicians such as Heinz-Otto Peitgen are counted among the pioneers of fractal art. ‘If you copy the overall motif at the end, you could put it together anywhere and create an endless surface. Then you could zoom in and always come out at the same point where you started. ' This sounds very calculated, but it looks pretty good.
