Monster Cats

The detached house on Dubelohstrasse, just outside Sennelager, was a stroke of luck for the Swiss artist Taina. ‘We hit it off straight away. I was invited to dinner with the family in the evening. That made me very happy’. The artist from Zurich painted her first outdoor picture at the age of 17. Well, it was only her parents' garage door, but the joy of creative design was awakened in her at an early age. ‘I feel incredibly comfortable in a community that goes outside and doesn't just take place in galleries. It's about accessibility for everyone. That's what I really like about street art.’ The central motif of her murals are the cheerful cats and monsters that she designs herself and paints on the wall in colourful tones. Her Nordic roots were an important inspiration for Taina: ‘My mum is from Finland. There are lots of fantasy stories there about trolls and mythical creatures that live in nature and in the water. That has always fascinated me and stayed with me. The films from Studio Ghibli were also very inspiring for me.’ Taina's style is characterised by bold colours, which she impressively harmonises with nature here in the garden through the colourful flowers. Her pictures convey a positive mood that will not only bring great joy to the family in the little blue house on Dubelohstraße every day from now on. Paderborn now finally has its own mythical creatures, which, unlike Nessie, Bigfoot or the Golem, don't just spread fear and terror around the world. Nevertheless, caution is advised:

‘They're cats, they're cute, but they have pointy teeth.’
