The Crystal Ship 2026 markeert de 10e verjaardag van het befaamde openbare kunstfestival van Oostende, dit jaar samengesteld door Matthias Schoenaerts, die werkt onder zijn artiestennaam Zenith. Voor deze jubileumeditie brengt Schoenaerts meer dan twintig nationale en internationale kunstenaars samen uit de graffiti, street art en hedendaagse schilderkunst – de drie disciplines die zijn eigen artistieke visie vormgeven. Van 30 maart tot en met 11 april 2026 transformeren deze kunstenaars Oostende tot een tijdelijk open atelier, waar ze nieuwe muurschilderingen creëren in de hele stad, terwijl inwoners en bezoekers het proces van dichtbij kunnen volgen.

JABA, wiens echte naam Didier Mathieu is, groeide op in Luik en studeerde illustratie aan Saint-Luc.
Hij is een van de pioniers van de Belgische straatkunst. Zijn werk is sterk geïnspireerd door strips, anime en manga. Hij was actief als conceptartiest bij Lucasfilm en werkte mee aan talrijke producties zoals Star Trek, Transformers en Iron Man.

Op deze muurschildering zie je de gezichten van James Corbett, Whitney Webb, Francesca Albanese, David Icke, Abby Martin, Ibrahim Traore, George Galloway, Julian Assange, Bernie Sanders, Maria Ressa, Mehdi Hassan, Vandana Shiva en Dimitri Legrand.

Het zijn enkele van de favoriete journalisten en politici van JABA. Hij portretteerde hen omdat ze volgens hem in het belang van de mensheid handelen. Sommigen van hen worden bestempeld als complotdenkers, maar veel van die zogenaamde complotgedachten blijken na verloop van tijd toch waar te zijn... Het is slechts een kwestie van tijd.

Het wordt tegenwoordig immers steeds moeilijker om de waarheid te achterhalen. Elk beeld of elke video die door de mainstream media wordt gepresenteerd, kan volkomen vals en misleidend zijn om de publieke opinie te manipuleren. We bevinden ons in een tijdperk waarin de heersende macht de AI-agenda met alle macht doorzet om de massa in het gareel te houden, daar bestaat volgens JABA geen twijfel over. Misschien komen we wel terecht in een algocratie (een systeem van bestuur en controle dat wordt beheerd door AI-algoritmen). Het is heel belangrijk om hierover te discussiëren en goed geïnformeerd te zijn.

The Crystal Ship 2026 marks the 10th anniversary of Ostend’s renowned public art festival, curated this year by Matthias Schoenaerts, working under his artist name Zenith. For this milestone edition, Schoenaerts brings together more than twenty national and international artists from graffiti, street art and contemporary painting — the three disciplines that shape his own artistic vision. From 30 March to 11 April 2026, these artists will transform Ostend into a temporary open studio, creating new murals across the city while residents and visitors witness the process up close.

JABA, real name Didier Mathieu, grew up in Liège and studied illustration at Saint-Luc.

They are some of JABA’s favourite journalists and politicians. He portrayed them because, in his view, they act in the interests of humanity. Some of them are labelled as conspiracy theorists, but many of those so-called conspiracy theories turn out to be true over time... It is only a matter of time.

After all, it is becoming increasingly difficult to uncover the truth these days. Any image or video presented by the mainstream media may be completely false and misleading, designed to manipulate public opinion. We find ourselves in an era in which the ruling powers are pushing through the AI agenda with all their power to keep the masses in line; according to JABA, there is no doubt about that. Perhaps we are heading towards an algocracy (a system of governance and control managed by AI algorithms). It is very important to discuss this and to be well-informed.
