"THE THIRD LINE"

Organized by Social, Aid and Pleasure Clubs (SAPCs), author Dan Baum, in his book "Nine Lives," refers to the New Orleans tradition of the Second Line parades as "the quintessential New Orleans art form—a jazz funeral without a body." In 2016, after a year of gathering community input, Henry Lipkis spent months painting with collaborators Ceaux Young, Devin Reynolds, and Jessica Strahan, creating this tribute to the much-loved parades for the Nine Times club. Lipkis says Second Line parading represents part of what keeps him in New Orleans.
