Ensayo para un encuentro

This is an artwork that derives its meaning and relevance from the place where it was created. Its close relationship with the surrounding context means that, outside this territory, much of its significance would be lost, as it was conceived specifically to engage with the social, economic, and cultural dynamics of the area.

In this mural, we encounter an improbable, almost implausible scene, deliberately constructed to foster dialogue and bring into tension realities that coexist within the same geographical space.

The work emerged from walks and research conducted in the area surrounding the wall, with the intention of creating an image capable of establishing a direct relationship with its environment. Informal labor practices, represented by a shoeshiner whose historic workplace is located just a few meters from the intervention, and the complex dynamics of sex work, suggested through the legs of a transgender woman who works in the nearby tolerance zones, come together to form a symbolic portrait of the city center.

Through its monumental scale, the work functions as a mirror that makes visible individuals and communities often excluded from official representations of urban space. In doing so, it opens a space for reflection on the social, economic, and cultural structures that shape their lives and the territory they inhabit.
