We are sometimes trapped not only physically, but also mentally. The artist knows this all too well; when she was married to an authoritarian husband, her own home was a prison cell. Like the character in the painting, she wanted to fly away and feel the winds of change. The butterfly pattern on the woman's clothing in this artwork symbolizes that inner urge for freedom.
