The mural located on the back of an exhibition hall in the Mannheim squares (S5, 3) was created by the Austrian-French artist duo Jana & JS (Jana and Jean-Sébastien Philippe). Working together since 2006, the couple is internationally renowned for their highly detailed stencil art, which is based exclusively on their own photography. A hallmark of their style is the seamless blending of intimate, often melancholic portraits with the surrounding architecture. Their introspective figures are meant to question the role of the individual within modern urban environments. This artwork is part of Mannheim's vibrant street art scene, which has been widely popularized by the open-air gallery project STADT.WAND.KUNST.
