El monte no se toca

The intervention has been made after his meeting with the elderly. During the meeting, the attendees talked about the history of the municipality, shared personal photographs of each one, contributing to reconstruct moments that are part of the collective memory of the town. Thanks to this meeting, the work of Parsec! is a collage of ideas, impressions, memories and common memories loaded with meaning.

Symbols of the heraldry of San Agustín are represented, such as the castle, the cross and the eagle, elements present in its natural heritage such as the fox, the hawk and the dove, or the solitary oak called “Millana”. Structural elements loaded with history are also shown, such as the Retuerta bridge, with the presence during its construction of Queen Isabel II or the barn for storing farm implements.

We also find elements that allude to the etymology of Guadalix, which means “river of the trade winds” with the representation of its leaves, seeds and fruits, and famous characters and popular festivals, such as Furra, the midwife, the little swain and the shepherdess or the running of the bulls, all of them taken from photographs provided by the elders themselves.

As an element associated with oral tradition, the phrase “el monte no se toca” (the mountain cannot be touched) is represented together with some of the participants in the citizens' demonstration against the construction of houses on the mountain, during which they cut the old N-1 road by lying down on the asphalt and creating a large human chain.
