“Romera de Los Realejos”
Mural created for the Seisdedoce festival (Los Realejos)
On this occasion, I had the opportunity to travel to Tenerife and work on the visual identity of the Los Realejos area, through its pilgrimage costume.
In the Canary Islands, a privileged corner, the culture exudes a sense of meeting worlds with a vital spirit. This is palpable in every aspect of its identity, including its traditional clothing, which shakes off the weight of time we perceive on the Peninsula. Folklore is synonymous once again.
Miriam Negrin, the model, was Romera Mayor de los Realejos in 2022. On the one hand, she represents the zest for life after two years of restrictions and lockdowns due to COVID-19, two years without celebrating the pilgrimage. But she also told me that having beautiful 18-year-old girls as competitors, she didn't think she'd be chosen, and she was. Ultimately, beauty ends up being something that has more to do with people than with age.
