The surrealist painting of a fish emerging from an ear is characteristic of the style of the street artist Enigm (often pronounced and written as Enigma). Enigm is a Japanese urban artist who now lives in the East End. He originally worked anonymously under the pseudonym Enigm in the underground graffiti scene. At the end of 2022, he announced that he would henceforth continue his work under his own surname (Inagaki), although he remains known in the street art world as Enigm(a).

Fish and other sea creatures form a central theme in his portfolio. He combines surrealist elements with everyday objects to engage with passers-by.

The work dates from the autumn of 2021, when he created more of these monochrome murals on the streets of East London, and can be found on the side wall of Trumans Brewery on Quaker Street.
