ON VANISHING LAND

De Griekse street artist Taxis heeft in Lelystad een nieuwe mural gemaakt die de geschiedenis en toekomst van Flevoland verbeeldt. Het centrale thema van de schildering is de pioniersgeest, symbolisch weergegeven door een moederfiguur met haar kind, wat verwijst naar nieuw leven en de eerste bewoners van de regio.

De mural bevat elementen die zowel het historische als het moderne Flevoland weerspiegelen, zoals scheepswrakken en eigentijdse gebouwen. Ook de dijk, als symbool voor de strijd tegen het water, is prominent aanwezig. Taxis combineert hiermee verleden, heden en toekomst in zijn kenmerkende stijl.

Het kunstwerk is gemaakt voor Museum Batavialand en maakt deel uit van het landelijke project Museum Murals, een initiatief van het Mauritshuis dat museumverhalen naar de openbare ruimte brengt. Het project, gerealiseerd in samenwerking met Writers Block, heeft als doel cultuur toegankelijker te maken voor een breed publiek.

Greek street artist Taxis has created a new mural in Lelystad that depicts the history and future of Flevoland. The central theme of the painting is the pioneering spirit, symbolically represented by a mother figure with her child, which refers to new life and the first inhabitants of the region.

The mural contains elements that reflect both historical and modern Flevoland, such as shipwrecks and contemporary buildings. The dike, as a symbol of the battle against the water, is also prominently present. Taxis combines the past, present and future in his characteristic style.

The artwork was created for Museum Batavialand and is part of the national project Museum Murals, an initiative of the Mauritshuis that brings museum stories to the public space. The project, realized in collaboration with Writers Block, aims to make culture more accessible to a wide audience.
