“On the look-out for similarity”

Venesluis is a Moluccan neighbourhood in Hoogeveen, consisting of a Dutch and Moluccan community. The artist portrayed the Moluccan bird of paradise (Cendrawashi) here and the Dutch sparrow. Both with their own identity. The Bird of Paradise is known for its beautiful feathers and special mating rituals.
In this time of great diversity and polarization, the trick is to look for our similarities instead of looking for our differences.
“Always a privilege to capture our heritage with my own signature”, says the artist, whose specialism is a combination of realism and the abstract, always portrayed majestically.

Venesluis is een Molukse wijk in Hoogeveen, bestaande uit een Nederlandse en Molukse gemeenschap. De kunstenaar heeft hier de Molukse paradijsvogel (Cendrawashi) en de Nederlandse mus afgebeeld. Beide met hun eigen identiteit. De paradijsvogel staat bekend om zijn prachtige veren en bijzondere paringsrituelen.
In deze tijd van grote diversiteit en polarisatie is het de kunst om te zoeken naar onze overeenkomsten in plaats van naar onze verschillen.
“Het is altijd een voorrecht om ons erfgoed vast te leggen met mijn eigen handtekening”, zegt de kunstenaar, wiens specialiteit een combinatie is van realisme en abstractie, altijd majestueus weergegeven.
