The Flamingo Parc

Deze levendige muurschildering, gelegen in het hart van de Flamingostraat in Gent, is ontstaan als onderdeel van een door de buurt zelf geïnitieerd project om een lokaal park en een speeltuin nieuw leven in te blazen.

Hoewel de keuze voor flamingo’s op het eerste gezicht een directe verwijzing naar de straatnaam lijkt, gaat het kunstwerk dieper in op de symboliek van deze vogels. Ze fungeren als metafoor voor de identiteit van de buurt: trots staan door middel van zelfexpressie en het behouden van het delicate evenwicht dat het leven vereist.

Het belangrijkste is dat de muurschildering sociale harmonie viert. Net zoals flamingo's gedijen in kolonies, benadrukt dit project de essentiële rol van gemeenschap en samenwerking. Wat begon als een lokaal stadsvernieuwingsproject is uitgegroeid tot een kleurrijk eerbetoon aan de collectieve geest van de bewoners.
