Wind-Bewegt

The English name for the sculpture at the entrance to Essen-Werden is "Wind-Moved", which was created by Ilse Straeter as an official project for RUHR.2010, the year the Ruhr area was designated as the European Capital of Culture. It translates her signature theme of dynamic dance into a permanent outdoor exhibition.

The installation consists of five human-sized dancing sculptures crafted from stainless steel. The figures are equipped with special swivel joints. They capture the natural breeze and spin in the wind, creating a constantly changing, live choreography. The sculptures are located on the traffic island at the Ruhr Bridge, right at the intersection with Laupendahler Landstraße. Anyone entering Essen-Werden from the south passes this artistic landmark.
