No black, no white, just the blues

The Enschede artist Sonna Krom has brought the musical history of Enschede to life in the Stadsgravenstraat by means of this mural. Enschede has always been a vibrant city. E.g. in the 80's and 90's there was a lot of live music. In this work of art one can see the Nobo's Blues Band. A band that has been around for over 40 years.
Here you see Robert Pillage and to his right the three Timmer Brothers. The rightmost, Cor Timmer, has even received a Royal distinction for his active commitment to blues music in Enschede. The man on the far left is Robert "Bilbo" Walker Jr. great American blues misician who was a guest at the Enschede "Memphis HEart 'n Soul festival". Thands to the industrial revolution, a unique bond was created between Enschede and the city of Memphis, which is reflected in the painting. Enschede was a large textile city and Memphis was an important supplier of cotton. Just after the war the mayor of Memphis even sent food parcels and financial aid to Enschede. A real Enschedestory. Textile beats, blues, cotton and music.
