The Fates (EN)

Adorning this facade is an impressive mural by the Belgian artist Djoels. Two powerful women and a spinning wheel tell the story of Enschede as a textile city. The Van Heek Textile Factory once stood on this site. On its centennial, the factory received a relief sculpture as a gift from its employees, “The Three Fates,” created by sculptor Paul Grégoire. For years, this relief adorned the main entrance of the new weaving mill. Djoels drew inspiration from this work and transformed this heritage into a contemporary artwork.

De Schikgodinnen (NL)

Aan deze gevel schittert een indrukwekkende muurschildering van de Belgische kunstenares Djoels. Twee krachtige vrouwen en een spinnewiel vertellen hier het verhaal van Enschede als textielstad. Op deze plek stond vroeger de Van Heek Textielfabriek. Bij het honderdjarig bestaan kreeg de fabriek van haar werknemers een reliëf cadeau, ‘de drie Schikgodinnen’, gemaakt door beeldhouwer Paul Grégoire. Dit reliëf sierde jarenlang de hoofdingang van de nieuwe weverij. Djoels liet zich inspireren door dit werk en vertaalde het erfgoed naar een eigentijds kunstwerk.
