The Children Pavillon Storybook Mosaic

One of the oldest lasting murals in Edmonton. Created out of mosaic tiles on the front on the Royal Alexandra Hospital Children’s pavilion in 1960’s.

Alexander was a Hungarian Count who flex Austria after being a German Prisoner in World War 2. He eventually landed in Toronto and started doing mosaic works for churches.

The Royal Alex’ Hospital commissioned him to do a mosaic mural of classic storybook characters for the Children’s Pavillion they were constructing.

Outside shows murals from classic stories such as The Pied Piper, mother goose, King Midas, Humpty Dumpy.

The mural was officially unveiled by Pricess Alexandra in 1967

The mosaics are in great condition and I hope they remain archived if the pavillion ever becomes remodeled.
