The artwork depicts an African baobab tree growing out of a wooden shipping crate. It symbolizes the exploitation of the African continent. It draws a parallel between historical colonial trade and today’s global supply chains. Around 1910, the Heimathafen building itself served as a warehouse for colonial goods. At that time, the Port of Dortmund functioned as a major transshipment hub for such goods.
