Clíodhna

Clíodhna is a Celtic deity and, in some traditions, the patron of Cork. Daughter of the sea god Manannán Mac Lir, she is closely connected to the sea.

She is often accompanied by three magical songbirds whose singing puts people to sleep and heals them of their ailments. The mural also references her connection to nine magical apples, reminiscent of similar healing myths in other cultures.

Clíodhna fell in love with a mortal, but her father sent a wave to take her back to the sea. A subtle tear in her eye alludes to her tragic fate and her role as Queen of the Banshees, portrayed here in a subtle, non-stereotypical way.
