This Blind Wall tells the story of one of humanity’s loyal companions: the horse. For centuries, horses have supported people in travel, trade, farming, and city-building.

Breda, once a key military city, was a major route between the southern Netherlands, Holland and Utrecht. This mural also pays a tribute to great land and sea expeditions.

The blend of warm and cool colors symbolizes day and night. Inspired by Velasquez’s The Surrender of Breda, the MonkeyBird Crew represents openness and transition, fitting for the tunnel setting. The location is De Lange Stallen, once a horse stable, that was rebuilt in 1765 and transformed into housing in 2023 by RIENKS Architects and WonenBreburg.

MonkeyBird Crew is made up of French stencil artists Louis Boidron and Edouard Egéa. Their name reflects the symbolism of monkeys and birds: the monkey represents realism and the body, while the bird stands for dreams and the soul. The duo started by showcasing their work on the streets before transforming the walls of museums, public spaces, and institutions.

Materials: Stencil, spray and wall paint.
