A tribute to Æthelflæd daughter of King Alfred and lady of the Mercians that built military bases in the area to defend their region from the Vikings. This mural is a part of the Dukesfield Murals commissioned by Runcorn and painted in September 2024.
Interestingly, if you look towards Æthelflæd with the bridges on the left you will see that the Æthelflæd bridge is in the background which is the location of the original site of the fort built on the narrowest part of the river to protect the Mercian empire from attack by the Irish Norse and Dane Vikings.
