The order of things

In the bowels of the earth, in the Arlanpe Cave, more than 17,000 years ago, hands gouged female figures on the rock. Those remote engravings, full of mystery and meaning, continue today. This mural is a bridge between times. The past is revealed in the stone and its ancient symbols. The present lies in the hands that paint the façade, in the act of creating. The future looms in the eyes of those who discover it for the first time. Here, the act of representing also evokes representation: one image contains another, like layers of overlapping memory. Painting the art of another time is a way of entering in dialog with another époque, it is the echo of an ancestral gesture revived in a contemporary gesture. They both look at each other, they interpret, they are transformed. Muralism, as a collective and public practice, prolongs the tradition of communicating on walls what is essential, what is common, what is shared. Each contemporary stroke extends though a thousand-year-old timeline. It's another footprint on the long road of human art.

Michel Foucault “La pintura no es una representación del mundo, sino una forma de mostrar cómo el mundo se representa a sí mismo.”  En las entrañas de la tierra, en la Cueva de Arlanpe, hace más de 17.000 años, unas manos grabaron figuras femeninas en la roca. Aquellos gestos remotos, cargados de misterio y significado, siguen latiendo hoy. Este mural es un puente entre tiempos. El pasado se revela en la piedra y sus símbolos antiguos. El presente vive en las manos que pintan la fachada, en el acto de crear. El futuro asoma en los ojos de quienes lo descubren por primera vez. Aquí, representar es también evocar una representación: una imagen que contiene otra, como capas de memoria superpuestas. Pintar el arte de otros tiempos es un modo de dialogar con ellos, es el eco de un gesto ancestral revivido en otro gesto contemporáneo. Ambos se miran, se interpretan, se transforman.
