MURAL for Omar and his dog Megatatze

Omar represents many homeless people who mostly die alone and nameless in Berlin. After 30 years on the streets, he spent his life in sub-zero temperatures at Arnimplatz in Prenzlauer Berg. Omar, who often walked through the streets with his handcart and his dog, singing loudly and stubbornly, left his mark and stories behind. When asked what he wished for, he replied:

The mural is based on a photograph by Debora Ruppert from her social documentary series "NO ROOM - Encounters with Homeless People." Based on this photographic foundation, urban contemporary artist AKUT developed the mural, which was realized in collaboration with the Central Counseling Center for People in Housing Need. The counseling center in the building is a first point of contact for anyone seeking information and support regarding their precarious housing situation.

The artwork is intended to draw attention to people who are on the margins of society and are often overlooked. It highlights the difficult situation of homeless and housing-less people and highlights their dignity.
