Artist, Matthew Thompson's design incorporates five portraits of figures representing WW1, WW2 and Romans Auxiliary. Painted with areas of greyscale and sepia tone style renderings, sections of blue and red throughout inject colour and reference the Australian Flag that our servicemen fought for/under. The female figure represents the volunteer support and involvement throughout war time, in this instance depicting those that would act as spotters for early warning air defence. Eagle eyes will spot reference to the Rats of Tobruk represented in the design by a small rat sitting on a soldiers shoulder.
