Günter’s Batofar rises in the heart of Amiens’ Saint‑Leu district — a protected historic neighborhood where canals, timber‑framed houses, and heritage regulations make any artistic intervention a challenge. Created for the IC.ON.IC festival, the structure blends industrial memory with dreamlike invention, perfectly reflecting the artist’s hybrid style. Born near Amiens in 1985, Günter, has spent over twenty years exploring industrial wastelands, searching for surfaces that could host his Gothic‑Cubist language. His work merges architecture, graffiti, tattoo culture, and printmaking into a singular visual identity.

The Batofar is a flying machine inspired by Jules Verne, equipped with devices recalling Amiens’ industrial past and lifted by balloons that carry the viewer into the clouds. “The concrete blends with the dreamlike,” Günter explains. “The harshness of the industrial world meets the naivety of imagination.” This duality — solidity and reverie, machinery and wonder — is central to his practice. The structure becomes an allegory for travel, curiosity, and the human desire to escape constraints.

Günter’s background shapes this vision: trained at Saint‑Luc in Tournai, he discovered graffiti, architecture, and urban exploration early on. His lettering and illustrations echo the geometry of factories, while his tattoo work sharpens his precision. The Batofar gathers all these influences into a single object of marvel, inviting passersby to pause, imagine, and drift upward.
