Il murale di Luca Zamoc per FORME trasforma l'angolo tra Via Roma e Via Alighieri in una stratificata meditazione sulla memoria, il lavoro e l'identità rurale di Montespertoli. Ispirata al patrimonio agricolo della città, l'opera rievoca le storie che hanno plasmato generazioni di famiglie locali, intrecciando frammenti di storia che altrimenti rischierebbero di svanire dalla memoria collettiva.

Anziché presentare un'unica narrazione, Zamoc frammenta la composizione lungo le linee architettoniche dell'edificio, creando l'impressione di diapositive fotografiche sparse. Ogni frammento rivela uno scorcio del passato, invitando gli spettatori a ricostruire le storie celate all'interno del murale. Questo approccio riflette la continua esplorazione dell'artista su come la memoria influenzi il nostro rapporto con i luoghi che abitiamo.

Al centro dell'opera si trova la storia della produzione di paglia, un'industria che divenne la spina dorsale dell'economia di Montespertoli durante l'Ottocento. Dietro il rinomato cappello di paglia fiorentino si celava il lavoro invisibile di donne e bambini, che intrecciavano la paglia nelle loro case mentre i campi fornivano la materia prima. Il loro contributo non solo ha sostenuto le famiglie locali, ma ha anche lasciato un segno indelebile nella città, commemorato persino nelle iscrizioni della vicina chiesa parrocchiale.

Attingendo a fotografie d'archivio e resoconti storici, Zamoc crea più di un semplice omaggio all'artigianato locale. Il murale riconnette il pubblico contemporaneo con le vite, le tradizioni e le credenze spesso dimenticate, radicate nel paesaggio, trasformando lo spazio pubblico in un archivio vivente dove passato e presente continuano a coesistere.

A Testa Alta A.P.S. e Street Levels Gallery uniscono le forze per portare l'arte urbana contemporanea a Montespertoli attraverso FORME – Festival di Arte Pubblica. A Testa Alta, attiva dal 2017, sviluppa progetti che collegano arte, musica ed educazione in Italia e in Europa, promuovendo la partecipazione culturale e l'apprendimento non formale. Street Levels Gallery, la prima galleria internazionale di arte urbana di Firenze, esplora linguaggi sperimentali dello spazio pubblico e collabora a livello globale per sostenere la creatività urbana. Insieme al Comune di Montespertoli e alla Fondazione CR Firenze, curano un festival con artisti come Luca Zamoc, Manolo Mesa, Nelio, Nespoon, Skan, Thiago Mazza e Ufo Cinque.

Luca Zamoc's mural for FORME transforms the corner of Via Roma and Via Alighieri into a layered meditation on memory, labour, and the rural identity of Montespertoli. Inspired by the town's agricultural heritage, the artwork revisits the stories that shaped generations of local families, weaving together fragments of history that might otherwise fade from collective memory.

Rather than presenting a single narrative, Zamoc breaks the composition across the architectural lines of the building, creating the impression of scattered photographic slides. Each fragment reveals a glimpse of the past, inviting viewers to reconstruct the stories hidden within the mural. This approach reflects the artist's ongoing exploration of how memory influences our relationship with the places we inhabit.

At the heart of the work lies the history of straw production, an industry that became the economic backbone of Montespertoli during the nineteenth century. Behind the internationally renowned Florentine straw hat stood the invisible labour of women and children, who braided straw in their homes while fields supplied the raw material. Their contribution not only sustained local families but also left a lasting mark on the town, commemorated even in the inscriptions of the nearby parish church.

By drawing from archival photographs and historical accounts, Zamoc creates more than a tribute to local craftsmanship. The mural reconnects contemporary audiences with the overlooked lives, traditions, and beliefs embedded in the landscape, turning public space into a living archive where past and present continue to coexist.

A Testa Alta A.P.S. and Street Levels Gallery join forces to bring contemporary urban art to Montespertoli through FORME – Festival di Arte Pubblica. A Testa Alta, active since 2017, develops projects that connect art, music and education across Italy and Europe, fostering cultural participation and non‑formal learning. Street Levels Gallery, Florence’s first international urban‑art gallery, explores experimental languages of public space and collaborates globally to support urban creativity. Together with the Comune di Montespertoli and Fondazione CR Firenze, they curate a festival featuring artists like Luca Zamoc, Manolo Mesa, Nelio, Nespoon, Skan, Thiago Mazza and Ufo Cinque.
