<div>A new mural on the theme of mutual aid and the feeling of unity between people was recently created in the Municipality of Vyronas. The work depicts people comforting and emotionally supporting each other, support that is as important as material support. At the same time, these figures are also a symbol of the strengthening and enrichment of communities through migration and the mixing of cultures.<br><br>The artist of the work is Yessi Nur Mulianawati aka @yessiow, an illustrator and mural artist from Bali, Indonesia. After Belgium and Berlin, Athens, and more specifically the Vyronas district, was the third destination of her European tour.<br><br>Together with her partner Stijn, she decided to live a nomadic lifestyle abroad, building a street art career outside of Indonesia while working as a freelance digital illustrator online. The murals they have worked on together can be found in various countries, including Indonesia, Cambodia, Nepal, India, Turkey, South Africa, Italy, and now Greece.<br><br>Yessiow's work is heavily influenced by her love of bright colors, no doubt because she grew up on a tropical island. She likes to see her works in public spaces become part of the daily life of the local community, integrated into the activities of the people who pass by there every day.<br><br>Supported by @awesome_athens_experiences</div>

Far from sight, near to our hearts

<p>The mural is inspired by the Indonesian concept of Gotong Royong. This concept is about mutual cooperation, as an obligation of individuals towards society to share burdens between the member of community. This interaction can develop towards meaningful long lasting friendships between the members of community and build trust. The image depicts two women sharing their burdens and supporting each other. <div>&nbsp;“The mural is inspired by the craters (vases) found in the excavations of Stabia on which stories, legends, and scenes of everyday life were depicted. The work also linked the sensations of my experience during the pandemic to the crater, all enclosed in a vase to rediscover inner beauty. “– Yessiow&nbsp;<br><br>Yessiow is an illustrator and mural artist from Bali, Indonesia. She decided as a teenager that she wanted to study visual communication design to pursue her passion and dream. Her passion for drawing and art goes back to her childhood, she told us that she loved to draw as a child, to explore her ideas and imagination. Her work is heavily influenced by natural objects and bright colors around her. Currently, she has murals in Cambodia, Nepal, India, and Italy. She is currently enjoying her new hobby, traveling. She’s been traveling and working at the same time since 2018.<br><br></div><div>“My experience in murals are usually represented with eye-catching colors, playful elements, and influenced by natural objects and bright colors around me, considering I live in a tropical place, every day I see very blue skies, orange or purple sunsets, as well as, vibrant tropical plants such as coconuts and mango trees. <div>Project for St+art India<br><br>Artist Yessiow’s mural in Kannagi Nagar - the largest she has ever painted - is a message of deep love for India, and a celebration of all its aspects she has come to cherish.&nbsp;<br>&nbsp;<br>Having come to India for the third time as part of her travel journey, Yessi has stayed for almost a year owing to the pandemic. Her artwork in Kannagi Art District is inspired from the experiences and memories she has accumulated during her time here. Incorporating elements such as corals, algae and flowers that resonate with Kannagi’s demographic (comprising largely fisherfolk), the painting symbolises the kindness and hospitality of the local inhabitants.&nbsp;<br>&nbsp;<br>Referencing Kannagi Art District’s overarching theme of ‘People and Environment’, the artwork is an ode to India, its people and their warm, welcoming dispositions.</div>

<div>„My work is inspired by Thermopolium of Vetutius Placidus. Thermopolium means hot shop or hot things. When in Roman times, merchants and craftsmen also held a high social status, reserved only to landowners in older times. Drinks and hot food were served in this place, as the name indicates, stored in large jars placed in the richly decorated masonry counter of the tavern. The Serpents in this mural were also inspired by some paintings that I found in the ancient city of Pompei. The serpent painting decorated household shrines, kitchens, shops, crossroads, and public temples in Pompeii. In these places, snakes are not scary or evil but quite the opposite. Snakes often accompanying the Lares, are also symbols of good fortune and guardian deities that protect their home, shop or temple.”&nbsp; – Yessiow<br><br>Yessiow is an illustrator and mural artist from Bali, Indonesia.
