'Love is stronger than death' vol. 4 

<div>&nbsp;During a television broadcast on May 30, 2022, a huge painting by Dutch street artist Judith de Leeuw, was revealed in the port city of Rotterdam in the Netherlands. The painting ‘Brightness in the clouds of cancer’ is an immense mural that Judith made especially for KWF Dutch Cancer Fund.&nbsp;<br>&nbsp;</div><div>The mural depicts an intimate scene: a woman embracing her child while being engulfed in a fog. For the design Judith took her inspiration from the stories of three cancer patients that were interviewed for the fundraising event and who symbolize all those people living with and after cancer.<br><br></div><div>"Someone most close to me got diagnosed with terminal cancer when I decided to put all my heart and soul into this project. The final result was a complete TV show on the biggest dutch channel. The show was completely designed around the creation of the mural, inspired by cancer patients Pim, Ilse and Kelly. With doing so, big amounts of money were raised for cancer research.<br>It did not save the person I love most (he passed away), but it will save a lot of other partners, friends, mothers, sons and daughters' that are affected by cancer. Brightness in the clouds of cancer

<div>The mural depicts a Suranamese ballerina dancing in a whirlwind of official documents, and aims to raise awareness on the lack of opportunities and understanding between the center and the Amsterdam-Bijlmer suburb where there is a wide range of habitants of colour.&nbsp;</div><div>Recently, news reported that the Dutch taxservices uses ethnic profiling for marking “risk profiles”. For that reason, someone with a migration background has a higher risk of getting in financial problems. In the national balet, there are only 2 professional ballet dancers of colour&nbsp;</div>

Diversity in Bureaucracy

<p>The mural's district is known to be a neighbourhood where women hold the most impactful power. They provide care, love, and support to the children and men, enabling them to create a healthy and happy life. The story of this neighbourhood taught me that power doesn't come with money, success, or career goals. Real strength is the ability to make others grow.<br><br>Power doesn't come from the one who plucked the flower and kept it to himself. Power comes from watering a flower while it spreads, duplicates, and takes over a wide field.<br><br>This is what marks the Gallaratese district in Milan.</p>

Atlas, the woman who carried the world

<div>JDL made a huge portrait of model Myrthe Bolt on the wall of the House of Colors, a building full of creative entrepreneurs located on the Huskensweg. She has chosen this portrait because of the cool but innocent look the model has. Myrthe Bolt is connected to Models Rock Agency, also situated in House of Colors.</div>

<div>The mural depicts a woman looking into a frame, as a mirror, seeing her reflection as a man. It is designed to create emotional understanding in the process of acceptance in the LGBT+ movement and their surrounding.&nbsp;<br>This mural is made out of mixed materials, where the last layer of paint (airlite) is compensating pollution over 52 cars per day.&nbsp;<br><br>Dedicated in memoriam of Karl Du Pigné, activist and true leader in the LGBT+ movement in Rome.&nbsp;<br><br></div>

<p>Icarus is a well-known figure in Greek mythology. Daedalus created wings for his son Icarus to escape from the labyrinth where they were imprisoned. He warns him not to fly too low: Icarus his wings would get wet from the water, which would cause him to collapse. But he told him not to fly too high either, because it would cause the wax built into his wings to melt. Once Icarus started flying, he could not keep himself from flying higher and higher. Eventually, the sun melted his wings, and Icarus collapsed.<br><br>The interpretation of Icarus' myth is known as a result of excessive ambition. The society we live in today is designed to be more efficient, producing bigger amounts with fewer tools. Small farmers were replaced by big factories, and horses were replaced by cars. Even though this society is designed with the best intentions, the crisis we live in today proves that our ambition and ego as humankind might have grown excessively. Sometimes, it's good to take a step back from our ambitions in order to fly in between the lines. If we work hard for this specific goal, we could provide ourselves a better future.<br><br>The mural depicts a female version of Icarus having her wings polluted with oil. On the left side of the building, she cleans them with a cloth, causing her to be able to fly. On the opposite side, she lost her wings and collapsed.</p>

<div>The mural tells a story about a man who was entangled in the criminal underworld. He feels trapped in his situation and sees no way to escape criminality. However, he manages to leave his criminal life behind and start an honest life. The falling person on the artwork depicts the "escape". The halo around his head shows that people are beautiful and good.</div>

Echoes of Tomorrow / Echi di domani

<p>This work was realized for the Biennale street art "Superwalls" (June 2021).</p><p>Two human figures emerge from the wall of St. Antonio Hospital, they're captured in the act of huddling arousing in the viewer great tenderness.</p><p>This whole scene was inspired by a real story that involved a couple of lover: she was diagnosed with severe breast cancer, after that, her partner did not think twice, so he decided to marry her in order to be there for her in the best way.</p><p>The artist attended the ceremony:</p><blockquote><p>I stood in front of their altar, watching them with admiration, while thinking about the true love and support that they gave each other during this real life nightmare.</p></blockquote><p>After that time, the artist promised them a huge tribute mural on a hospital, in order to inspire others with their story. She also gave them a holiday to Italy to see it in person, where they hugged and cried tears of joy.</p><p>This mural is a reminder that when everything breaks apart, love can keep each others world together, even stronger than before.</p>

<p>Judith de Leeuw built the portrait of 2 kissing boys from 100 AI modulated portraits of homosexual men. All portraits together form the faces behind the rainbow. An important reason for "Behind the rainbow"are figures that show that the majority of people tend to avert their gaze whwn they see men kissing each other on the street.</p>

<div>This work was realized for the Biennale street art "Superwalls" (May-June 2023).&nbsp;<br><br>The mural was inspired by 'F', who knew his life would fall apart soon due to a personal crisis but still lived life fully.&nbsp;</div><blockquote>I spent a happy moment with him, learning to find joy in difficult times and how to dance with my eyes closed.&nbsp;</blockquote><div>His peace of mind in this situation is an inspiration to everyone. Maybe you struggle with poverty or have a physical problem. But there will always be a way to enjoy life with your eyes closed. It's something of great importance to remember.<br><br>The mural was placed on INAIL, a company that protects the safety of workers but also supports them once an accident happens.&nbsp;</div><blockquote>"I am very happy and honored that my piece and its meaning meant so much to the people who, for instance, lost a hand because of an accident".&nbsp;</blockquote>
