<p>Muurschildering uit 2020 voor Street Art Festival.</p><p>Van kindsbeen af aangetrokken tot elke vorm van artistieke expressie, richt Iota a.k.a. Elisa Morlet zich tot de teken- en schilderkunst en vindt er al snel haar favoriete thema: het portret. Het onder de knie krijgen van uiteenlopende technieken stelt haar met de loop der jaren in staat om er een meer persoonlijke vorm van te verkennen en te ontwikkelen.<br>De insteek om het portret te behandelen van binnenuit, vanuit een beweging, een gelaatsuitdrukking of een emotie, is kenmerkend voor haar werk.<br>Daarbij tracht ze zo veel mogelijk abstractie te maken van een welomlijnd gezicht, om de toeschouwer ertoe te brengen zich met zijn werken te identificeren en zijn werken aan te voelen.</p><p>Het werk aan de linkerzijde van is van Sokar Uno.</p><p>---------------------------------------------------------------</p><p>Wall painted in 2020 for Street Art Festival</p><p>Attracted to any form of artistic expression from childhood, Iota a.k.a. Elisa Morlet turns to drawing and painting and soon finds her favourite theme: portraiture. Mastering a variety of techniques allows her to explore and develop a more personal form of them over the years.<br>The approach of treating the portrait from the inside, from a movement, a facial expression or an emotion, is characteristic of her work.<br>In doing so, she tries to abstract as much as possible from a well-defined face, in order to lead the viewer to identify with his works and to feel his works.</p><p>The mural on left side was painted by Sokar Uno.</p>

Voilà le voyage artistique que vous propose la jeune artiste bruxelloise. Passionnée par le dessin depuis son plus jeune âge, Iota se plonge dans les plaisirs du Street Art et de l’art mural en 2013, s’appuyant d’abord sur des lieux abandonnés pour exprimer son talent. Ses œuvres oniriques, mi-abstraites et mi-figuratives, puisent leurs influences dans la peinture classique et l’art nouveau. Sa démarche artistique a pour mantra d’explorer l’humain par ses émotions en mélangeant les corps, les textures et les matières pour fusionner l’inconscient avec le réel. Ces personnages souvent énigmatiques permettent à chaque spectateur de s’identifier. Car les émotions sont universelles.</p><p>Iota joue des contrastes pour rappeler l’importance d’un nid chaleureux face à l’école Louis Pasteur</p><p>Une philosophie tout en allégorie qui s’affiche en grand dans un endroit symbolique face à l’école maternelle Louis Pasteur. Réalisée en quatre jours par Iota, cette nouvelle fresque de la 9ème édition du festival Street Art ravit déjà passants et habitants, avant d’enchanter parents et enfants qui reprendront le chemin de l’école le 2 septembre prochain.</p><p>« Quand j’ai découvert que le mur était situé juste en face d’une école maternelle, ça m’a tout de suite évoqué l’importance de posséder un nid, un cocon familial avec la chaleur dont on a besoin quand on est petit » explique l’artiste belge. Mais comment illustrer cette thématique ? « J’ai décidé d’imager ça par une forme de grotte au centre de laquelle se trouve une sorte de feu, quelque chose qui est né des flammes » poursuit la muraliste. « Dans mon travail, il y a toujours une dualité entre le chaud et le froid. La grotte de glace n’est pas sombre mais très froide dans les tons bleus avec des clair-obscurs qui marquent un contraste avec quelque chose de très ardent au milieu dans un orange – rouge – jaune très pétant. »</p><p>Au-delà de l’allégorie du nid, ce chaud / froid « symbolise pour moi les mécanismes de la construction humaine. Le fait de se trouver » poursuit Iota. « De manière générale, mon travail parle beaucoup d’identité et de l’importance d’essayer plusieurs expériences dans la vie pour savoir qui on est et les choses que l’on préfère. Il faut toujours passer par une dualité. Il faut toujours aller dans les extrêmes pour savoir qui on est. »</p><p>Une philosophie qui s’image par cette fresque entièrement réalisée au pinceau et à l’acrylique. « J’ai arrêté le spray il y a deux ans » reprend la jeune Belge. « Le pinceau me permet d’être plus libre dans le choix des couleurs, pour tester des mélanges et des textures. C’est important pour moi car mon travail a pris une tournure légèrement plus abstraite que figurative ces dernières années. Les structures minérales par exemple, n’ont pas besoin de proportions exactes. Il faut juste que les couleurs soient bonnes pour que l’on comprenne ce que c’est. Par rapport à tout ça, je peux avoir un lâcher prise qui est plus plaisant pour peindre. »</p><p>Pour des œuvres abstraites qui apportent leur pouvoir évocateur, invitent à une plongée dans ses rêves, ses émotions et confrontent son inconscient au réel. De quoi faire le bonheur des petits de l’école Louis Pasteur. « Généralement, les enfants imaginent toujours beaucoup de choses dans l’abstrait et c’est ce que j’aime développer dans mes créations » confirme Iota. « Chacun peut y voir ce qu’il veut à partir du moment où il ne reconnait pas une figure humaine ou quelque chose de concret. »</p><p>______________________________________________________________________________________________________________</p><p>A dive into your dreams, your unconscious and your emotions. This is the artistic journey that the young Brussels artist offers you. Passionate about drawing since her youngest age, Iota immersed herself in the pleasures of Street Art and mural art in 2013, initially drawing on abandoned places to express her talent. Her dreamlike works, half-abstract and half-figurative, draw their influences from classical painting and art nouveau. Her artistic approach has the mantra of exploring humans through their emotions by mixing bodies, textures and materials to merge the unconscious with reality. These often enigmatic characters allow each viewer to identify with them. Because emotions are universal.</p><p>Iota plays with contrasts to recall the importance of a warm nest opposite the Louis Pasteur school</p><p>A philosophy all in allegory that is displayed in a large way in a symbolic place opposite the Louis Pasteur nursery school. Created in four days by Iota, this new fresco of the 9th edition of the Street Art festival is already delighting passers-by and residents, before enchanting parents and children who will return to school on September 2.</p><p>"When I discovered that the wall was located right in front of a nursery school, it immediately reminded me of the importance of having a nest, a family cocoon with the warmth you need when you are little," explains the Belgian artist. But how to illustrate this theme? "I decided to illustrate it with a cave shape in the center of which is a kind of fire, something that is born from the flames," continues the muralist. “In my work, there is always a duality between hot and cold. The ice cave is not dark but very cold in blue tones with chiaroscuro that mark a contrast with something very ardent in the middle in a very bright orange – red – yellow.”</p><p>Beyond the allegory of the nest, this hot / cold “symbolizes for me the mechanisms of human construction. The fact of finding oneself” continues Iota. “In general, my work speaks a lot about identity and the importance of trying several experiences in life to know who we are and the things we prefer. We must always go through a duality. We must always go to extremes to know who we are.”</p><p>A philosophy that is illustrated by this fresco entirely done with a brush and acrylic. “I stopped spraying two years ago” continues the young Belgian. “The brush allows me to be freer in the choice of colors, to test mixtures and textures. It is important to me because my work has taken a slightly more abstract than figurative turn in recent years. Mineral structures, for example, do not need exact proportions. The colours just have to be right so that we understand what it is. In relation to all that, I can have a letting go which is more pleasant for painting. "</p><p>For abstract works that bring their evocative power, invite a dive into one's dreams, one's emotions and confront one's unconscious with reality. Enough to delight the little ones at the Louis Pasteur school. "Generally, children always imagine a lot of things in the abstract and that is what I like to develop in my creations" confirms Iota. "Everyone can see what they want as long as they do not recognise a human figure or something concrete."</p>

The artist Iota plays on the unsaid, the taboo. It suggests rather than shows. With this fresco, the City of Namur reaffirms its commitment against this too often concealed violence.&nbsp;</div>

<p>As part of the Belgian presidency of the municipality of the European Union, the Embassy of Belgium in Portugal / Embassy of Belgium in Portugal celebrated with an intervention on the gable of the Livensa Living Portugal building, by the Belgian mural artist IOTA.</p><p>It had the support from Avenidas Novas Parish Council, Livensa Living Portugal and the Urban Art Gallery of the Lisbon City Council.</p><p>"The Mural represents two human silhouettes integrated into a landscape where the textures of water and stone blend harmoniously. The water symbolizes the constant exchanges between the two countries and their mutability, while the stone represents the specific strength and stability of each culture. The work celebrates the connection between the Wallonia-Brussels Federation and Lisbon, illustrating this connection through art and culture."</p>

<div>Since the summer of 2017, the association DAK-Domus Art Kunst has been coordinating the "uZinne" project: an ephemeral socio-cultural center set up in an abandoned industrial warehouse. It is one of the projects of "Pop Up Kanaal", supported by the Municipality of Molenbeek-Saint-Jean via the Sustainable Neighborhood Contracts.</div>

<p>Iota depicts a figure surrounded by minerals. These represent change, the puppet in which the individual builds himself. This metaphor reflects the work going on in the neighbourhood, which is evolving in a positive direction as a result.</p><p>The result is a transparent, evocative, dreamy and poetic work that everyone can interpret in their own way.</p><p>Iota a.k.a. <div>&nbsp;</div><div><strong>Nieuwe gigantische Airborne muurschildering in Ede</strong>&nbsp;</div><div>&nbsp;<br><br></div><div>Ede heeft er sinds afgelopen weekend een tweede hoogbouw ‘mural’ bij. Deze 30 meter hoge muurschildering is het vervolg op het Pegasus-paard op de van Eekelenflat die in 2022 geverfd werd.&nbsp;</div><div>&nbsp;<br><br></div><div>Het initiatief komt van cultureel centrum Astrant, welke in samenwerking met de provincie Gelderland een bijdrage heeft ontvangen uit het ‘airborne regions’ subsidie budget van de provincie. Samen met woningbouwcorporatie Woonstede en Boels Rental is er een pact gesloten om samen op te trekken en dit nieuwe kunstwerk mogelijk te maken.&nbsp;</div><div>&nbsp;<br><br></div><div>Astrant heeft als initiator een suggestie gedaan voor een vervolg op de ‘pegasus mural’ in Ede-Zuid. Deze is vorig jaar beschilderd door Nina Valkhoff. Ditmaal was het de eer aan Iota, zoals Elisa zichzelf noemt als artiest. Onder deze alias heeft zij al diverse muren in de Benelux geverfd.&nbsp;</div><div>Haar werk is een mix van portretten, mineralen en texturen. Deze grove stijl leent zich perfect om juist niet met de spuitbus te werken. De schildering is met kwast aangebracht in de periode van een week tijd.&nbsp;</div><div>&nbsp;<br><br></div><div>Op de afbeelding staat een portret van een persoon die naar de lucht kijkt, wachten op verlossing. Dit is in het kort de interpretatie van de artiest op de verhalen rondom de luchtlandingen in Ede in 1944.&nbsp;</div><div>&nbsp;<br><br></div><div>De Belle Fleur, zoals het appartement aan de Groenendaal heet was overigens niet bewust gekozen aldus Xander van Soelen, projectleider bij Astrant. ‘Veldhuizen heeft nog relatief weinig street-art objecten te zien op straat, omdat Woonstede openstond voor suggesties hebben we deze locatie aangedragen. Dat het een senioren-complex was, was een leuke bijkomstigheid gezien het thema’.&nbsp;</div><div>&nbsp;<br><br></div><div>Of er meer muurschilderingen bijkomen in het thema? Als het aan Astrant ligt wel. De Provincie heeft ook in 2023 de airborne regeling opengesteld. En daar gaat zeker een aanvraag gedaan worden. Dus woon jij in een hoogbouw-appartement in Ede? Mail dan vooral met de woningbouwcorporatie om te laten horen dat er draagvlak is.&nbsp;</div><div>&nbsp;<br><br></div>

She has wanted to illustrate the journey undertaken by people who leave their country in the expectation of a better future.</p>

She realized her mural in the Donkerlei. “She painted a couple in a very serene way, underwater and above the tip of the iceberg. Her work symbolizes the merging of two different cultures that become a different entity”, Gijs explains. “Iota paints very poetically and softly.
