<p>The art in this bicycle tunnel is a collaboration between many international artist. The animals are created by Marcus 'GOMAD' Debie, Nash and Zenk one. The graffiti letterpieces are made by Chas, Behind, Does, Dater127, Puaks, Mister, Taste, Reser and Sunk.</p><p>Update March 3, 2024: The wall is starting to crumble down, but some animals are still in tact.</p>

<div>In 1984, at the age of 12, I came into contact with hiphop culture for the first time. This is when I started painting graffiti myself and started rapping and breakdancing. So my roots go way back in the old school hiphop scene.&nbsp;<br><br>Over the years my style has changed from graffiti to urban art or muralism as I prefer to call it. However, I still do a lot of my work with spray paint.<br><br>Staying with the theme of hiphop and breakdance/b-boying, I didn't want to interpret it too literally, as my current style consists of portraits, animals and flowers, friendly in character and modest use of colors. However, the hiphop vibe is often the opposite. In order to stay close to my style and still be able to apply this theme, I came up with the following.<br><br>We decided on a photo that shows me and my wife Nancy in a pose similar to some b-boy freezes, but in a surrealistic imagery and setting by turning the photo 90 degree’s.&nbsp;<br><br>In the same way, I replaced the boombox/ghetto blaster, that was cool to carry on the shoulder back then, with a classic gramophone record player. This is also how I make the connection to DJing and scratching. One when she was 16 years old and one how she looks now at the age of 80 years old. Still a beautiful lady if you ask me. The classic watch tells the passing of time and age.&nbsp;</div><div>So it’s an ode to Vermeer and my mother. <p>We made a 40x4 meters (132x13 ft) mural titled “Magma Mater” (Mother Nature) portrayed as an elderly and sophisticated lady, surrounded by a lot of beautiful flowers and a Swedish Blåtrast (blue thrush bird).</p>

<p>For Vitalis Peppelrode in Eindhoven (NL) I’ve painted this new mural. This is an elderly care and nursing home.</p><p>Titled: “TIME &amp; TOON”</p><p>Inspired by the poem De Tuin (The Garden) by Dutch comedian, poet and cabaret artist Toon Hermans, this mural reflects on the cyclical nature of life — how everything that fades returns in new form. Falling leaves, a young poplar sprouting from a wooden clog, and an elderly woman gazing peacefully at the sky come together in a quiet meditation on time, change, and renewal.</p><p>The central figure, touched by a warm glow, embodies serenity and vitality. Her presence evokes both personal memory and universal rhythm — she is a symbol of Mother Nature, gracefully inhabiting the final season of life.</p><p>Two robins, one resting and one in flight, accompany her gaze. As lifelong partners, they represent hope, love, transformation, and the magic of connection. The wooden clog has been gently reimagined as a birdhouse — a humble object of human heritage transformed into a symbol of shelter, care, and new beginnings.</p><p>Warm earth tones and soft circular shapes echo the sun and moon, anchoring the work in both architectural harmony and symbolic depth. For example, a windmill blade is depicted in the painting, because there used to be a mill in Panningen. The design reflects a story about the surrounding neighborhood: buildings disappearing and, consequently, people moving out—like birds flying out of their nests. An overlapping story is integrated, taken from a poem written by the late Toon Hermans, a renowned local resident. This story also tells about a bird and how people react to that little bird... because it has a broken leg” by James Jetlag</p>

<p>‘Bellfounder’ is the name of the street where this mural can be found. So I choose this old hand craft, a foundry worker who casts bells as the main subject of this wall.</p><p>He holds a church bell upside down changing the bell into a flower vase. This symbolizes the transience of church buildings in the Netherlands. Many churches are empty, are being demolished or are being given a new purpose. The same goes for this bell.</p>

<div>Artist GOMAD used the passage to the Adwaita courtyard as a canvas for this unique mural. The namesake of the courtyard, the poet Adwaita, is the focal point. He is surrounded by flora and fauna, a nod to Brahmanism, an Indian philosophy from which Adwaita drew inspiration for his poems.</div><div><br></div><div>GOMAD held onto his unique style, in which eyes, plants, animals and organic colour forms play an important role, but also crawled into Adwaita's head. He delved into a text about the Hindu God Brahmâ, who, as the story goes, created a woman, with whom he himself fell in love. She tried to escape his lovestruck stares, but each time Brahmâ grew another head so he could keep looking at her.<br><br></div><div>GOMAD draws the viewer into the story with piercing eyes looking anxiously at the courtyard. What else is there to see?&nbsp; Come take a look for yourself. Once inside the courtyard, the portrait of J. <p>A special collab of GOMAD (NL) and OSIRIS RAIN (USA) for The Mural Fest SSL. The location of both murals is at the ‘Bowers Residences’ in South Salt Lake named after the bowerbird, known for building intricate display nests called bowers, not for shelter, but to attract a mate. Many species are especially drawn to the color blue, like the wall, carefully collecting and arranging blue objects to decorate their bowers. This ritual reflects a unique blend of intention, aesthetic instinct and creativity.</p><p>A man and a woman, crowned in flowers, watched by birds of instinct and grace. One looks, the other looks away. One builds, the other shelters. They orbit each other without touching, connected, but apart. The male bowerbird seeks to impress; the female shields and nurtures, like nature herself. She does not return the gaze, she holds the gaze of something deeper.</p><p>Together, these murals form a quiet dialogue about attraction and distance, creation and care. About beauty not just displayed, but protected.</p>

THE SPACE BETWEEN; two walls, two worlds

<div>&nbsp;This mural portrays a young woman in grief after her lover was killed in a violent altercation. The girl glances up towards the sky, hoping to catch a glimpse of him in paradise. The cardinal bird, which symbolises the beloved, informs us that he will live on in the hearts of those who love him. Flowers provide comfort because they allow us to communicate with the departed without words. The rose in her hair, in particular, is a symbol of love and transience. The piece is a tribute to Raffaele Cesarano, a victim of absurd group violence.&nbsp;<br><br>Marcus Debie, better known as GOMAD, is a colorblind Dutch artist. He was born in the city of Sittard in the south of Holland in 1972, where he currently lives and works. GOMAD began his creative career in the early 1980s in the Southern Dutch graffiti scene, heavily influenced by the legendary films ‘Beat Street' and 'Style Wars.' So much so that he is regarded as a pioneer in that region. His art is described as the apex of post-neo cubism. He combines oil paint, acrylics, and sprays in a colorful manner to create compositions that fuse photorealistic pictures in a mind-bending surrealistic setup against cubistic and organic shapes. He presently works as an international urban fine artist and muralist, creating murals and paintings for shows around the world.&nbsp;</div>

<p>Deze muurschildering is een ode aan de vogels die rond onze huizen cirkelen - fladderend tussen takken en tuinen, bosranden en muren. Ze herinneren ons eraan dat de natuur geen verre wereld is, maar een levende verbinding vlak voor onze deur. Hun veren, bloemen en dwarrelende bladeren vormen een kwetsbare, kleurrijke cirkel: een stille dialoog tussen mens en natuur. Hier, in deze Tuin van Veren, brengen de vogels vrijheid en nabijheid samen - fluisteraars van de seizoenen die van een huis een thuis maken.</p><p>---------------------------------------------------------------</p><p>This mural is an ode to the birds that circle our homes - fluttering between branch and garden, forest edge and wall. They remind us that nature is not some distant world, but a living connection right at our doorstep. Their feathers, flowers and drifting leaves form a fragile, colorful circle: a quiet dialogue between people and nature. Here, in this <em>Garden of Feathers</em>, the birds bring freedom and closeness together - whisperers of the seasons who make a house a home.</p>

<p>Created for the fifth edition of Pulpa Festival, check <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://streetartcities.com/tags/festival/Pulpa%20Festival"><strong>the full map here</strong></a>.</p><p><em>Two young women entwine in love, sheltered beneath a shared umbrella – a symbol of protection, hope, and dreams forged together.</em></p><p><em>Warm hues, from deep crimson to softened reds, speak of passion, growth, and transformation.</em></p><p><em>Around them, floating umbrellas and abstract lines suggest a boundless world of creativity and endless possibility.</em></p><p><em>“Synergy of Youth” celebrates the power of young connections, the dreams they nurture, and the new world they’re ready to shape – free to love and believe without fear of judgment.</em></p><p>The <strong>Pulpa Festival</strong> in Montesilvano is a vibrant, free event dedicated to street art, urban culture, and intergenerational inclusion.</p><p>Now in its fifth edition, Pulpa offers a rich program: <strong>live painting and graffiti battles</strong>, street art workshops, a <strong>digital QR-tour</strong> with 66 murals accessible via QR codes, music, street food, creative activities for children (including those with disabilities), urban sports (3x3 basketball, skateboarding, kickboxing, pickleball, wheelchair tennis), exhibitions, fashion shows, and talks with urban culture professionals.</p><p>The 2025 edition continues to focus on <strong>urban regeneration</strong>, community participation, and the international promotion of artists. <p>This portrait of film maker Reggery Gravenbeek was a gift from the neighborhood to thank him for all the good work he has done. The mural was painted as a surprise for Gravenbeek while he was away on vacation. He started receiving photos of the work, but he thought they were a joke until he made a video call.</p><p>Gravenbeek came into contact with police a lot when he was younger, but has turned his life around since. He now runs a foundation helping the youths in his neighborhood and organizes events. Some of the guys from there organized to get mural painted, paying for it themselves. This was the way they thought was best to thank Gravenbeek for his efforts, since he does not care much for material possessions. </p>

<p>This mural shows the bond between FRANK (short for Frankston) the domestic cat and his loyal owner KAT (the woman).</p><p>Frank, like all cats, is a bit bossy and subborn and places himself above his master (servant). But still they have a mutual and loving relationship, which is very important. Keeping pets around gives benefits for people's health and well-being.</p>
